Get you pool ready for summer

Summer-Ready with These Essential Tips

To make the most of your pool during summer, it's vital to keep your maintenance routine on track. Regular treatment and maintenance will ensure your pool is performing at its best, especially during those scorching hot weeks when you need it most.

For a personalised treatment plan, visit Poolcare Ltd at 54A Hewletts Road, Mount Maunganui.

Remove Your Pool Cover

If you haven't done so already, summer is the time to take off your pool cover and let your pool breathe. Drain off any water that has accumulated on the cover, and make sure this water doesn’t end up back in your pool, as it may contain contaminants that could disrupt your pool's chemical balance and promote algae growth. Give the cover a thorough clean to prevent reintroducing algae, and store it in a shaded area when not in use to extend its lifespan.

Check the Water Level

Make sure your pool's water level is topped up to the middle of the skimmer opening. This allows for proper circulation, which is crucial for keeping the water clean and clear.

Get Your Water Tested

Once you've topped up the water levels, allow the pool water to circulate for 24-48 hours. Then, fill a water sample bottle (collect water from elbow depth) and bring it to Poolcare for a personalised water test. This will help ensure your pool's chemistry is balanced for the best summer swimming experience.

Inspect Pump, Filter, and Skimmer Basket

Take a moment to inspect your pool equipment, such as the pump, filter, and skimmer basket, to ensure everything is functioning correctly. If you notice any damage or something seems off, take a photo and bring it to Poolcare for advice. We recommend using BioGuard Filter Brite™ to clean and sanitise your filter. It helps restore filter efficiency by removing scale, rust, grease, oil, and organic waste, and will also extend the life of your filter and its media.

Test pH and Sanitiser Levels

If you prefer testing your pool water yourself, be sure to use a good quality test kit or test strips. Ideally, your pool's free chlorine level should be between 2-4 ppm, and the pH level should sit between 7.2-7.6 to keep the water healthy and safe for swimming.

Stay on Top of Maintenance for a Sparkling Pool

Following these simple maintenance steps throughout summer will ensure your pool stays healthy, sparkling, and ready for fun. Proper care now means fewer problems later, letting you relax and enjoy your pool with peace of mind.
